Creating Picture Perfect Rooms

Melissa Dixon from MD Interiors has always been interested in colour, furniture and spatial planning.

“My bedroom was my first ever evolving creative space,” she recalls.

“I was always trying to maximise storage space, re-arrange decorative items and move furniture around to create my own unique space.

“Much to my mother’s horror, my bedroom was a bold and bright purple, which didn’t really sit well with the greys, avocados and salmon pinks of the early 90s.”

Established in 2010 in Samford, MD Interiors offers a range of services for people who are building, renovating or redecorating residential or commercial properties across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

This includes colour consulting, fabric selection, wallpaper, lighting, soft furnishings, floor coverings and window treatments, furniture sourcing, spatial planning, and pre-sale property styling.

“There is a misconception that hiring an interior decorator is too expensive but I can actually save client’s time and money,” Melissa said.

“A lot of people are ‘time poor’ and it can take a lot of time to choose the right colour or furnishings for your home.

“I have the knowledge of and access to thousands of products and know where to source those products from.

“Having ‘trade only’ access to wholesalers who supply furniture, lighting, wallpaper, fabric, fixtures and fittings is a fantastic advantage, as I can pass those wholesale savings on to clients.”

Melissa believes that “everyone has their own unique style” and that “every project is tailored to encompass that distinct style”.

“Meeting and discussing a project with a client, visualising the end result, communicating the concept and seeing the completed project are the best parts of my job,” she said.

“I love knowing that my client’s are happy and excited by their newly redecorated space.”

One of Melissa’s clients, a couple from Mt Samson, said the interior designer offered professional service and advice “while never losing sight of the look and feel that we wanted”.

“This was our first experience of working with an interior designer and Melissa was a pleasure to work with,” they said.

“She met with us and we asked to be taken out of our comfort zone but to still feel relaxed with the final result.

“Her professionalism, creativity and reassuring manner ensured that the final product was one that now gives us great pleasure.”
